The IHG Rewards Club Loyalty Program 

The IHG Rewards Club program is the loyalty program for the InterContinental Hotels Group portfolio of hotels. The IHG portfolio includes 14 different chains of hotels and resorts – ranging from budget-friendly to extravagant luxury. These brands include Crowne Plaza, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn, Hotel Indigo, and more. All totaled, the IHG Rewards Club covers more than 5,600 properties worldwide.

Best Ways to Earn Points 

Hotels 

Staying at IHG hotels offers the easiest route to earning large amounts of points with the IHG Rewards Club. The number of points members earn with IHG varies depending upon their tier status. The point-earning potential for IHG Rewards Club members breaks down as follows:

  • Club: 10 points per dollar spent with IHG properties
  • Gold: 11 points per dollar spent with IHG  
  • Platinum: 15 points per dollar spent with IHG 
  • Spire: 20 points per dollar spent with IHG

Ambassador is another tier in the IHG’s Rewards Club, with membership costing $200 to join and $150 each year after that for renewal. Ambassador status members receive a complimentary weekend stay certificate, late check-out, and guaranteed room upgrades. Ambassador-tiered members earn the same points on stays as Platinum-tiered members.

Dining 

Earn up to 8 points per dollar spent on dining at eligible restaurants, including tax and tip, through the IHG® Rewards Club Dining program.

Car Rentals 

Members can earn 1,500 or more IHG® Rewards Club points when booking a rental car through the IHG portal.

Shopping 

Members earn 4 points per dollar spent on Mac or iPad purchases through IHG® Rewards Club.

Value of Rewards Club Points 

Establishing the exact value of rewards points is imprecise and imperfect. There is a huge number of factors that come into play when determining the value of points, including the date of the booking, the location of the hotel, the season of the planned stay, room amenities, and many more.

Best Ways to Redeem Points 

Free Nights 

Redeeming points for free night stays at eligible IHG portfolio hotels offers members the best value-for-money in the Rewards Club program. The cost of rewards nights varies based on the category of the property, the amenities, the room type and other factors, such as the date of stay and location of the hotel. Reward stays in the IHG program can be booked in three ways: Points, PointBreaks, and Points & Cash.

  • Points: Points are the typical method of redemption in the IHG Rewards program, with free nights starting at around 10,000 points.
  • PointBreaks: PointBreaks are a rotating selection of properties where members can book reward nights for as low as 9,000 points.
  • Points & Cash: As with many other programs, the IHG loyalty program allows members to pay for part of their reward booking using points – with the remainder paid with cash. Points & Cash redemptions require a minimum of 5,000 points.

Transfer to Airline Miles 

Points transfer to over 30 airlines and frequent flyer programs across the globe. Redemption rates vary, but most airline partners require a minimum of 10,000 points for 2,000 miles. Transfers of points to airline miles must be completed by contacting IHG Rewards Customer Care. Other Ways to Redeem 

  • Online Catalogue: IHG’s online shopping portal allows members to redeem points for gift cards, merchandise, magazine subscriptions, and more.
  • Exclusive Experiences: IHG® Rewards Club Access allows members to bid on unique, members-only experiences that range from vacations, lifestyle, and entertainment. Opening bid amounts vary, but typically require bid increments of 1,000.
  • Donations: Use points to donate between 2,500 and 10,000 points to five charitable establishments: Goodwill, The American Red Cross, The Prince’s Trust Donation, Youth Career Initiative, and CARE International UK Donation.
